Clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, Prague
Tomas Holcner, MA
I am an experienced English speaking Chartered Clinical Psychologist from Prague specializing in adult psychotherapy and counseling. I have worked in the field of mental health with people who have presented with complex mental health difficulties and emotional distress since 2003. These have ranged from relationship difficulties, anxiety disorders (agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, specific phobias, OCD, PTSD) and low self-esteem to bereavement and depression.
My formal training is in Clinical Psychology from Masaryk University where I obtained an M. A. degree followed by further postgraduate studies in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy. I successfully completed training in EMDR therapy and Jungian psychotherapy. As I finished training at the International Association of Analytical Psychology I became a training analyst and supervisor at the Czech Association for Analytical Psychology. Alongside working at my private practice, I also worked as the head of the Crisis Centre RIAPS for seven years.
My particular professional interest is in psychotherapy of anxiety disorders, especially PTSD and crisis intervention.

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. EMDR therapy is recognized as a highly effective form of treatment for trauma and other disturbing experiences by organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization and the U.S. Department of Defense. Given the worldwide recognition as an effective treatment of trauma, you can easily see how EMDR therapy would be effective in treating the “everyday” memories that are the reason people have low self-esteem, feelings of powerlessness, and all the myriad problems that bring them in for therapy.
Jungian psychotherapy
Jungian analysis is a specialized form of psychotherapy in which the Jungian analyst and patient work together to increase the patient’s consciousness in order to move toward psychological balance and wholeness and to bring relief and meaning to psychological suffering. The process can treat a broad range of emotional disorders such as depression and anxiety, and it can also assist anyone who wishes to pursue psychological growth. At the heart of the Jungian analysis is a realignment of conscious and unconscious aspects of the personality with an ensuing creation of new values and purpose.
Jungian analysis can help most people who have a genuine desire to learn about themselves and are willing and able to commit to regularly scheduled meetings over a sustained period of time. Those who suffer from a range of emotional problems, including depression and anxiety, those who seek better relationships, and those who seek growth and deeper meaning in their lives can benefit richly from Jungian analysis.
